iPass Announces New Pricing Plan
(September 28, 1999)

Overview of Price Reductions
iPass announces an ISP price reduction and simplification effective February 1, 2000

  • Elimination of our $2 per user monthly fee.
  • Repricing of all POPs to use rates based on round "retail" cents per minute.

Details of New Pricing Plan
Elimination of our $2 per user monthly fee

Starting February 1, 2000, we will no longer charge a $2 fee per active user per month, and will no longer include                 a CDR entry for each user showing this fee. This will eliminate the occasional double-counting of user names in our database and related customer refund requests.
Elimination of the monthly user fee makes iPass completely usage-based: roamers pay only for the time they use, and have no fixed or hidden charges. This represents significant savings to you and your subscribers.

POP Price Changes

We are also putting our POPs into more defined price bands. These prices will parallel our Corporate Access                 pricing, so that our partners can offer both services from a single price list. In addition, every price is chosen to be in round cents/minute (in $US) when marked up by 28%, matching the suggested retail price for our Corporate Access product. ISPs that price in $US with a 28% markup will offer prices starting at 4 cents/minute.
Of course, you can continue to mark up your iPass sessions at your chosen rate.

Prices on more than 550 of our POPs in Europe, Asia/Pacific, and Latin America have been reduced an average of 7 cents per minute. US POP prices have increased slightly, up to 3.1 cents per minute from 2.7 cents per minute. US toll-free POPs have also increased slightly by 1/2 cent per minute. Overall, these POP price changes will have less than 1% effect on average end user costs. Combined with the waiver of monthly fees, you will see lower roaming costs.

These price reductions will be effective starting on February 1, 2000. You have the option of moving to the new plan starting October 6, 1999. However, we urge you begin to plan for these changes using the timeline and tools below.

Billing Code Changes

Note that new billing codes will go into effect for the October billing cycle. These changes will be seen on your CDR and usage reports that will be accessible on November 2nd. The file which matches billing codes to rates will now be in the same directory as your usage reports and invoices. This lets us customize the billing code list for you.

Upcoming New Tools and Promotions

On October 6, 1999, iPass will announce the release of our new dialer called "iPassConnect". At that time, versions of the new dialer with the price plan changes and those created on the current price plan will be available to download. Also, updates to all the web templates will also be available for you to replace on your webpages.

Stay tuned for upcoming promotions announced later this week around the new dialer that will put extra money on your books simply by converting users over to the new dialer.
